AMD K6-2 350

Procesor AMD K6-2 na 350 MHz, uvedený v srpnu 1998, se stal klíčovým mezníkem, protože jako první procesor od AMD oficiálně běžel na systémové sběrnici (FSB) 100 MHz. Do té doby šlo o výsadu pouze posledních modelů Intel Pentium II (od 350 MHz výše). Ačkoliv měl nominálně nižší takt než jeho sourozenec K6-2 366 s 66MHz sběrnicí, právě výrazně rychlejší 100MHz FSB, která navíc urychlila i přístup k L2 cache (stále umístěné na základní desce), mu umožnila dosahovat o něco lepšího celkového výkonu. Zároveň je nutné dodat, že přestože K6-2 350 využíval rychlejší sběrnici, jeho přímým konkurentem nebylo zmíněné Pentium II, ale Intel Celeron 300A, který přišel na trh ve stejné době.

I při vyšší FSB si K6-2 zachoval jádro Chomper, stejnou velikost 64 KB L1 cache a podporu instrukcí 3DNow!. Přestože měl v některých parametrech navrch, v praxi v přímém souboji na Celeron 300A nestačil. Naopak Intel Celeron 300A sice běžel na pomalejší systémové sběrnici 66 MHz a disponoval pouze 32 KB L1 cache, nicméně jako první procesor nabídl 128 KB L2 cache integrované přímo v pouzdře CPU, což zásadně urychlilo práci s daty a ve výsledku přineslo výrazně lepší výsledky napříč většinou testů. Navíc přetrvávající slabinou procesorů AMD té doby byla slabší FPU jednotka, což je v herních aplikacích rozhodující faktor. To se ostatně jasně projevuje i v mých porovnávacích tabulkách níže, kde se K6-2 350 s grafickou kartou nVidia GeForce2 MX (AGP) sice viditelně posunuje výše oproti pomalejším verzím K6-2 s FSB 66 MHz, avšak v čistém 3D výkonu se na Intel stále nechytá.

Celkově tedy K6-2 350 MHz představoval velmi dobrý kompromis pro uživatele, kteří hledali nový a cenově dostupný počítač pro multimédia, kancelářskou a běžnou práci, zatímco byli ochotni akceptovat slabší herní výkon.

Testování jsem rozdělil do tří kategorií. Herní výkon byl měřen ve hrách Quake 2, SiN, Kingpin, Soldier of Fortune a Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Dále jsem využil syntetické 3D benchmarky Final Reality, 3DMark 1999, 3DMark 2000 a 3DMark 2001. Výkon procesoru (CPU) a paměti RAM byl měřen pomocí nástrojů WinRAR 3.11, AIDA64, AIDA32, CPU-Z Vintage, SiSoft Sandra 99 Standard a PC Mark 2002.

Test - CPU PhotoWorxx: Tento test prověří rychlost procesoru spolu s pamětí RAM a ne vždy vyšší frekvence procesoru vyhraje. Celočíselný benchmark měří výkon procesoru pomocí algoritmů zpracování několika 2D fotografií.
